Reflections and observations on the expatriate experience from an American scientist living and working in the Netherlands.
Early winter snows frosting the Polouse hills in eastern Washington state.
There's something stunning about the last photo in particular. Beautiful!
Great photos and a great travel, 'memory lane' and 'bonding' story (now where's that Grateful Dead t-shirt?)
Thank you both: it was a fun trip and well worth the many miles on the airplane. Headed back to the NL tonight, but glad to have had the chance to see the landscapes at this time of year, especially around sunset when the light gets amazing..
The first and last pic are spectacular. All that open space, those long roads... you really do get to appreciate them from your car window. Driving through that place must feel pretty peaceful.
Thanks, Simon, I lived in the area back in the 80's and always enjoyed the the vast emptiness of eastern Washington. Winter, especially, brings the spaces into amazing relief. Nothing like it in Europe!
